The Breckenridge community showed up in force Friday night, May 28, for Breckenridge High School’s Class of 2021 Commencement Ceremony at the BISD Athletic and Fine Arts Center.

Eighty graduates dressed in the traditional Buckaroo green caps and gowns were awarded their diplomas as the large crowd looked on, often cheering on the students. Many of the graduates had their mortarboards decorated, and some wore special collars, sashes (stoles) and/or cords signifying various honors, worn in addition to the white BHS sash. Those included:

  • National Honor Society – White NHS collar
  • Dual Credit – Gold cord
  • SAT/ACT Endorsement – Purple cord
  • Industrial Arts Endorsement – Kelly Green Cord
  • Dual Language ESL Endorsement – Maroon cord
  • Dual Blood Donor – Red cord
  • PALS – Blue and gold cord

Following the invocation by Bethany Boone, BHS Principal William Paul handed out several special awards. Then, Salutatorian Evan Moore gave the salutatory address and Valedictorian Jonas Arellano gave the valedictory address.

BISD Superintendent Bryan Allen made the presentation of the class. Then, Paul read each graduate’s name, and BISD School Board President Graham Reaugh and others presented the diplomas to the students. The district’s administration and school board members congratulated the graduates as they returned to their seats.

After the diplomas had been awarded, Kayla Wood gave the benediction, and the graduates tossed their caps into the air. The event wrapped up with the students singing the school song. As everyone exited the building, the celebrations continued outside with families and friends gathering for photos and hugs.

Scholarships and other awards were presented at a ceremony earlier in the month. Click here to see the story about that event.
