The Breckenridge Senior Citizens Center will begin serving meals inside and offering some of its usual activities again on Monday, May 4. Meals on Friday, May 1, will be served on a take-out basis.

The local center, which is operated by the City of Breckenridge, serves lunch to senior citizens and others at a low price and offers a variety of other activities, such as a place to play dominoes, cards and bingo, put together jigsaw puzzles, socialize, read, watch television, etc. Meals are served on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

When the novel coronavirus situation began to threaten the Breckenridge area, the City of Breckenridge decided to shut down the dining room and activity services provided by the Senior Citizens Center. Local senior citizens could still pick up meals to go at the center throughout the community shut-down.

According to Breckenridge Public Services Director Stacy Harrison, like local restaurants, the Senior Citizens Center will allow up to 50 percent of the building’s capacity to come in for meals. Social distancing procedures will be in place when they serve.

As far as other activities, bingo is scheduled begin on May 14, but it will be limited to the amount of people that can safely get in the center while practicing social distancing. However, Harrison said that date could change if necessary.

Harrison also said that even though they’re going to be serving inside, if anyone wants an order to go they can go in and pick it up, or they can pull up to the center and honk their horn and the staff will make sure they get taken care of.

He also said that beginning Monday, May 4, senior citizens will be able to visit the center to read or watch TV, as long as they practice social distancing while they’re in the center.

He said the center will operate its normal hours beginning on Monday, May 4.
