The Breckenridge Police Department is continuing its investigation into the fatal accident that occurred Saturday morning near the Breckenridge City Park.

According to a news release issued by Breckenridge Police Chief Bacel Cantrell on Monday, April 27, the Breckenridge Police Department received a 911 call and a radio transmission from a firefighter with the Breckenridge Fire Department at approximately 9:49 a.m. Saturday, April 25. Both parties reported an automobile accident in the 600 block of East Walker Street.

An on-duty firefighter arrived on scene just after the incident occurred. He began assessing the 79-year-old victim later identified as Khay Khvan of Breckenridge. Shortly thereafter, AMR (medic and ambulance) arrived and began emergency treatment. Also assisting on scene were members of the Breckenridge Fire Department and Stephens County Sheriff’s Office.

Despite emergency intervention efforts, Khvan died on scene from his injuries. Initial investigation indicates that Khvan was walking on the sidewalk on the southside of the 600 block of East Walker. A 2016 GMC pickup operated by Ricardo Perez, a 24-year-old Breckenridge resident, was traveling east bound when his vehicle left the road and struck Khvan on the sidewalk, according to the news release.

The Breckenridge Police Department is continuing its investigating of the incident, and the Department of Public Safety will be assisting with that investigation this week. Once the investigation is complete, the incident will be forwarded to District Attorney’s Office.

“The Breckenridge Police Department would like to add that we have received cooperation from all parties involved in this very tragic incident,” Cantrell said in the news release. “No arrest has been made at this time as we will need to gather all the facts surrounding the incident before presenting it to the District Attorney’s Office. If you know of anyone that may have witnessed this incident, please encourage them to contact the Police Department at 254-559-2211.”
