A Breckenridge man died Saturday morning, April 25, when a pickup truck, driven by a local man, reportedly jumped the curb alongside the City Park on Walker Street and hit him.

The Breckenridge Police Department and Texas Department of Public Safety are investigating the incident. The names of the men involved have not been released yet.

“An older gentleman was walking up the sidewalk, and the half-ton GMC truck came over the sidewalk and struck him,” Breckenridge Police Chief Bacel Cantrell said. “We don’t know, at this point, what direction the pedestrian was walking, but we do know he was on the sidewalk when the truck came over the sidewalk.”

The man was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the pickup is being cooperative with investigators, Cantrell said.

AMR emergency services, the Breckenridge Fire Department and the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene, and the Texas Department of Transportation assisted at the scene by putting up signs to help divert traffic.
