The City of Breckenridge will reopen parts of the City Park beginning Saturday morning, April 18. Breckenridge City Manager Andy McCuistion said Thursday afternoon that they will reopen the walking trail, disc golf course and skateboard park.

The park has been closed since March 23 to help enforce state and local orders to limit crowds and practice social distancing as Breckenridge and the rest of the world try to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus. Click here to read the original article.

McCuistion said they are opening areas of the park where people can get out for outdoor activities without clustering together. He said the basketball court, pavilion and the playground areas will remain closed.

By waiting until Saturday to open the park, McCuistion said, city workers will have time to barricade off the areas that will remain closed and remove the barricades from the areas that are going to be open. He said it would also give them time to put up signs reminding everybody they still have to maintain social distancing and follow all the other requirements the governor, the county and the city have put in place.

“We are going to make sure we put good signage up and barricades where people understand what’s closed and what’s open,” he said.

McCuistion said they decided to open up parts of the park because local residents are wanting to get out and the weather is nice. He said early on they were concerned that it could have been difficult to administer  only closing down parts of the park and not closing down other parts. But, he said now they think they’ll have better compliance since everyone has had a chance to adjust to the social distancing practices.
