BISD to announce lone finalist for superintendent on Wednesday, April 1
The Breckenridge Independent School District’s Board of Trustees is scheduled to announce the name of the lone finalist for the district’s superintendent position in a special board meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 1.
Because of the local shelter-in-place order and the Texas Governor’s executive order limiting groups of people to 10 or fewer, the meeting will be held via video/teleconference. The video/audio meeting is allowed because, due to the public health threat of COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus, Gov. Greg Abbott issued a Temporary Suspension of Open Meetings Laws on March 16, according to the agenda posted by BISD. The meeting will be audible to the Board and public and will allow for two-way communication.
The BISD Board President, presiding officer or trustees will not be required to be physically present at one location, but a quorum will be required for the meeting on the videoconference or phone. The public may access the meeting by clicking on the following link: https://zoom.us/i/602019854. A recording of the meeting will be available for viewing on the BISD website.
A link to sign up as a participant for public comments form is available at: http://www.breckenridgeisd.org/BISD-School-Board.html. The form must be completed and submitted by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 1, 2020, to brittany.edgar@breckenridgeisd.org if you wish to address the Board of Trustees on an agenda or non-agenda topic at a special meeting.
Although the name of the lone finalist will be named on Wednesday, the contract will not be signed until April 23, following the three-week delay required by Texas law. (Texas Statutes, Chapter 552.126)
Earl Jarrett has been serving as the interim superintendent since former superintendent Tim Seymore retired last year.
