After receiving several requests this morning, the Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce is extending the deadline to register floats for the annual Christmas parade, scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, in downtown Breckenridge. Those interested in having a float in the parade now have until 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, to sign up for the event.

This year’s Christmas parade will be themed “Another Charlie Brown Christmas,” and the registration forms may be picked up at the Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce, 100 E. Elm St. or printed out from their website, www.breckenridgetexas.com.

The parade is open to organizations, businesses, churches, clubs, groups, even individuals. Parade entries can include cars, trucks, tractors, motorcycles, trailers, bicycles, groups of walkers, even horses. There are a few rules to be followed, and a list is available at the Chamber of Commerce and on its website, listed above.

The parade route will take the floats east on Walker Street from North Miller Street. The parade will continue east, crossing over Breckenridge Avenue and turning left at Baylor Avenue (one block east of Breckenridge Avenue). After the parade, floats may tear down in the 100 and 200 blocks of East Elm, including the parking lots behind Clay’s Tires and across from the Chamber of Commerce.

All entries will be introduced when they are in front of the courthouse. Each float or entry that elects to be judged will be judged on the interpretation of the theme (“Another Charlie Brown Christmas”), creativity, and originality. The judge’s trailer will be on the north side of Walker Street in front of the courthouse.

Before and during the parade, First National Bank of Breckenridge will be serving hot cocoa in front of their building at 101 E. Walker St. Additionally, several downtown businesses will stay open later on Saturday for holiday shoppers.

“The Chamber encourages everyone to shop local,” said Executive Director of the Chamber Carrie Holson.
