City to host second annual beans and cornbread cook-off on Saturday, Oct. 19
The second annual Homemade Beans and Cornbread Contest will take place Saturday, Oct. 19, during this month’s Breck Trade Days.
The cook-off will begin at 9:30 a.m. in the Trade Barn in the south end of the Breckenridge City Park. Judging will begin at 11:30 a.m.
The competition is open to anyone, and each person may have only one entry in each of the two categories. There is no fee to enter.
The food can be prepared at home and finished on site starting at 9:30 a.m. Contestants must provide a minimum one pint of beans and one pan of cornbread for judging. If they want to compete for the People’s Choice, they will need extra beans and cornbread to serve to the general public.
Electricity will be provided. Contestants must provide their own tables, equipment and ingredients.
The entries will be judged on three criteria: appearance, taste and texture.
There will be a top prize of $50 for the winning Beans and Cornbread entry. The People’s Choice Award will be decided by voting from the general public.
