Breckenridge Police officers and Stephens County Sheriff’s deputies were at McDonald’s in Breckenridge on Wednesday to celebrate Coffee with a Cop. The program, which was hosted by the local McDonald’s restaurant, encourages interaction between the community and law enforcement.

At Wednesday morning’s get together, police officers and Sheriff’s deputies drank coffee with members of the community and posed with them for pictures.

Coffee with a Cop was started by the Hawthorne Police Department in California in 2011 and has grown into a national movement with events occurring in all 50 states. The program has also expanded to Europe, some African countries, Latin America and Australia, according to the Coffee with a Cop website.

Coffee with a Cop brings police officers and the community members they serve together — over coffee — to discuss issues and learn more about each other. For more information about the national event, visit the official Coffee with a Cop website www.coffeewithacop.com.
