They taught the kids:

  • to have a responsible adult around any time they go swimming,
  • always jump feet first the first time you enter a pool so that you know how deep the pool is and make sure it’s safe for diving into
  • the importance of life jackets and swim lessons.

Ellen Watkins, EMT, and Shane Dunstan, Support Services Manager, are Short Stack and Gus Gus with the Cross Saftey Pals program of Sacred Cross EMS.

Pool Operations

The Breckenridge Aquatic Center is located in Miller Park, aka the City Park, at East Walker Street and Old Caddo Road. It will be open through Aug. 4.

The pool will be open Tuesday through Saturday in two sessions, from 1-4 p.m. and from 4:30-7:30 p.m., and on Sundays from 2-6 p.m. The pool will close at 4 p.m. on Thursday, July 4.

The entry fee is $2.50 per person, per session; children age 3 and younger will be admitted at no charge.

The pool will be open for adults only (for water aerobics) from 7:30-8:30 a.m. Tuesday through Friday, and it will be open for daycares from 9-10:30 a.m. and 10:30-noon on Wednesdays.

The pool will close during thunderstorms, according to information on the City of Breckenridge’s website. Everyone at the pool will be cleared from the water and the surrounding area at the first sound of thunder. The pool will be reopened when there has been no thunder for at least 15 minutes and the sky shows evident signs of clearing. The pool manager will make the decision about when to reopen.

SWIMMING LESSONS

Session 1 will be June 4-27, and Session 2 will be July 9-Aug. 1. The cost is $35 per child.

As a non-profit news outlet, the Breckenridge Texan depends on donations, in addition to ad sales, to fund daily operations, including website costs, freelance writers, and basic office expenses. The outlet serves both local residents and people outside the community seeking information about Breckenridge and Stephens County, including potential new residents and businesses. They chose the non-profit structure to maintain local control of news coverage while minimizing the financial burden on the community.

In addition to regular news coverage, the Breckenridge Texan also offers:
