March 6
• A deputy responded to a burglary of a home and barns in the 13,000 block of State Highway 67. Again on March 11 a report was received of a second burglary on the ranch. Alcohol, power tools, and U.S. cash were stolen. If you have any information on these offenses, you can report it to the Sheriff’s Office anonymously or confidentially. Please help.
March 7
• A deputy transported a male to a behavioral rehabilitation center in Abilene.
March 8
• A deputy transported a male inmate from our jail to a state jail near Jacksboro. The male was sentenced to two years in the facility.
March 9
• Sheriff Will Holt taught citizens at the Wayland Volunteer Fire Department the Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE) course. Approximately 22 people attended. The Sheriff’s Office is happy to teach the course to any church, organization, agency, or business.
March 10
• A deputy responded to a residence in the 6800 block of CR 304 to take a harassment report.
• A deputy responded to a delayed report of burglary of a building in the 3400 block of CR 263. A girl’s bicycle, oil lamps, and vehicle ramps were stolen.
March 11
• A deputy transported a male from Stephens Memorial Hospital to a behavioral hospital in Abilene after a judge signed an emergency detention order.
• A deputy responded to a disturbance in the 9900 block of CR 197. Upon contacting a 39-year-old female, it was determined that she was wanted for the offense of Hindering Apprehension/Prosecution. She was arrested and taken to jail.
• A male was issued a Criminal Trespass Warning for the residence mentioned above on CR 197 where the disturbance occurred.
March 12
• The Sheriff and a deputy responded to an oilfield accident on private property off of US Highway 180 East. A male worker sustained non-life threatening injuries.
• A citizen reported a cow being shot on FM 576 East. This is an offense of felony criminal mischief.
March 14
• A deputy traveled to Eastland County Jail to obtain a female prisoner on a bench warrant for Stephens County District Court. The female was sentenced to 20 years in prison for drug offenses, then transported back to Eastland County Jail.
• The Sheriff’s Office responded to a disturbance in the 8900 block of CR 299 at Possum Kingdom Lake. The male subject had left before the officer’s arrival, going to Bryson. The Sheriff’s Office had a CTW issued to the male by Jack County Sheriff’s Office.
• A deputy contacted a wanted person on North Jackson Avenue. The wanted person evaded the deputy on foot. A warrant for arrest of that person is being sought.
March 15
• The Sheriff and a deputy responded to a delayed report of a hit and run on FM 1148. A vehicle left the roadway and struck a barbed-wire fence causing damage. The vehicle left the scene without notifying anyone.
March 17
• A deputy was dispatched to a one-vehicle rollover accident on FM 2231 near CR 270. The male driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead on scene. The Sheriff’s Office extends its sympathies and condolences to the friends and family of the deceased.
Calls for service include but are not limited to: 911 calls, non-emergency calls, registering sex offenders, traffic accidents/hazards, transporting prisoners and juveniles in and out of the county, mental hospital transports, court security, and some types of proactive calls.

The organization aims to raise $4,000, which could be tripled to $12,000 through various matching programs, including the NewsMatch program and the Rural Partner Fund, which is supported by several major foundations.
Founded in 2017 by journalists Tony Pilkington and Carla McKeown, the Breckenridge Texan provides daily local news coverage, weekly newsletters, photo galleries, a community calendar, and obituaries. The outlet serves both local residents and people outside the community seeking information about Breckenridge and Stephens County, including potential new residents and businesses. They chose the non-profit structure to maintain local control of news coverage while minimizing the financial burden on the community.
