Stephens Regional SUD issues boil water notice for areas west of Breckenridge
March 07
12:58 2019

The Stephens Regional Special Utility District has issued a boil water notice for in several areas west of Breckenridge.

Specifically, the boil water notice is in effect for:

  • all SRSUD water customers U.S.  Highway 180 West, west of CR 222, including CR 210;
  • all customers on FM 2231 South on the west side of 2231 to the Elks Lodge;
  • for all customers on FM 2231 north, including CR 206, CR 208, CR 209, CR 311, CR 312, CR 313, and the entire Tanglewood area.

Due to a line breakage on the evening of March 6, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has required the water system, PWS 2150007, Stephens Regional Special Utility District, to notify all customers to boil their water prior to consumption (e.g., washing hands/face, brushing teeth, drinking, etc). Children, seniors, and persons with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria, and all customers should follow these directions).

To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking and making ice should be boiled and cooled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes. The water should be brought to a vigorous, rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes.

In lieu of boiling, individuals may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source for drinking water or human consumption purposes.

When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, the public water system officials will notify customers that the water is safe for drinking water or human consumption purposes. Once the boil water notice is no longer in effect, the public water system will issue a notice to customers that rescinds the boil water notice in a manner similar to this notice.

If you have questions concerning this matter, contact Gary Brockman, Field Operations Manager, at 254-212-9980; Kelvin Nickell, Water Plant Operator, at 254-488-2333; or the District’s office, located at 206 FM 3099, Breckenridge, or 254-559-6180.
