A local scholarship fund has been set up in honor of the late Marquis Martin, a 2002 graduate of Breckenridge High School.

The Marquis Martin Memorial Scholarship Committee is accepting donations for the scholarship, which will be given to a BHS graduating senior. Donations may be made online, in person or by mail.

To donate online, go to the GoFundMe page at https://www.gofundme.com/marquis-martin-memorial-scholarship. Donations may be made with a Visa, Mastercard, American Express or Discover credit card.

To donate by mail, make your check payable to the Breckenridge Education Foundation and mail to #2 London Circle, Breckenridge, TX 76424.

Also, donors can make a direct donation to the Breckenridge Education Foundation (attn: Marquis Martin Memorial Scholarship) at Interbank, 301 W. Walker St.

After graduating from BHS, Martin, the son of Mark and Connie Martin, formerly of Breckenridge, went on to graduate from the University of Texas. In 2012, he married Cameron Clark, and their son, Marquis Lafayette Martin IV was born in 2016.

He died after a sudden illness in November 2016, and now his Breckenridge friends have decided to create a scholarship in his name. According to information from the scholarship committee, the scholarship will be awarded to a student who is involved in a variety of activities and is a leader among his classmates.
