Throckmorton chase ends with arrest in Stephens County
The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Throckmorton County Sheriff’s Office in an incident Tuesday afternoon that started when the driver of a white Ford E-250 van fled the scene of a routine traffic stop in Throckmorton County. The suspect was taken into custody about 12 miles north of the Breckenridge city limits on U.S. Highway 183.
The driver was the only person in the vehicle, which had California license plates. According to Throckmorton County Sheriff James K. “Doc” Wigington, when the vehicle was searched, a small amount of marijuana was found.
“It was just a traffic stop that he fled on,” Wigington said.
The suspect, who is from Spain, was taken into custody Tuesday, Jan. 22, by the Throckmorton County Sheriff’s Office and taken to Throckmorton, where he will be arraigned, Wigington said. Then, he will be returned to Stephens County because Throckmorton County does not have a jail and the Sheriff’s Office contracts with Stephens County to house their inmates.
The suspect’s immigration/citizenship status is unknown at this time, Wigington said.
Stephens County Sheriff Will Holt said he and Chief Deputy Kevin Roach responded to a call from the TCSO informing them of the chase that was entering Stephens County. When the Stephens County officers arrived on the scene near the intersection of U.S. 183 and County Road 279, the suspect had already been stopped by the TCSO.
“We just assisted once we got here,” Holt said.
