Mr. Jerry Bascom Gibson of Breckenridge returned to his Lord and savior on Monday, December 31, 2018. Graveside services will be held Saturday, January 5, 2018, at noon at the Rule Cemetery in Rule, Texas. The family will greet family and friends in the Melton-Kitchens Chapel Friday, January 4, 2018, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Jerry was born on September 20, 1935, to the late Derwood Reginald and Loudell Bell Gibson in Rule. Following graduation from Rule High School in 1954, he went on to live a life of caring after others through active/reserve service in the United States Marine Corps and his more than 50 years as a behind-the-counter pharmacist. During Jerry’s early college years at North Texas University, he met and fell in love with Arrena Ann Williams. Jerry and Ann later married, September 14, 1956, in Waco, Texas.
Jerry is a graduate of the University of Houston with a Pharmaceutical Science degree, 1962. Following graduation, he began work at Nau’s Drugstore in Austin. After a few years, he began his career with Walgreens which took him to Houston and Galveston. In 1972, Jerry ventured out of corporate life and purchased Whitman Drug Store in downtown Breckenridge. After 22 years owning Gibson Drug Store, he sold his business to Eckerd Pharmacy where he remained as an employee. After several years with Eckerd Pharmacy, Jerry went to work for Walmart as their pharmacist until his retirement in 2015.
Upon retirement, Jerry enjoyed time with his family and friends including spending time at his retreat in Red River, New Mexico.

Jerry was a life-long Methodist and a member of First United Methodist Church of Breckenridge. He was also a 32 Degree Mason and past Master with Lodge No 492.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 61 years, Arrena Ann (Williams); daughter Elizabeth and her husband Steve Burleson of Midland; son Rex of Katy; son Dale and his wife Holly of Katy; grandchildren, Brett Burleson and wife Randi, Eric Burleson and wife Sydney, Alyssa Burleson, Jarett Gibson, Sean Gibson, Alec Gibson; and 5 great-grandchildren, Rylee, Ellie, Briggs, Drake and Wells; his big sister, Mary Paul Braswell of Rowlett and her four sons, Roy Bennett, Paul, Donald and Neal and their families; also by numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, Jerry requested donations to the Methodist Children’s Home (111 Herring Ave., Waco, TX 76705 or mch.org) or the West Texas Rehabilitation Center (4601 Hartford, Abilene TX 79605 or westtexasrehab.org). Donations can also be left in the funeral home office.
