The community of Breckenridge has several opportunities for kids to get out of the house and have some fun this summer.

Here’s a list of some upcoming activities. To keep up with what’s going on around here, check out the Breckenridge Texan’s Calendar of Events.

Summer Art Camp
The Breckenridge Fine Arts Center will host a Summer Art Camp for kids in kindergarten through eighth grade from Wednesday, July 11, through Friday, July 13. The BFAC is located at 207 N. Breckenridge Ave. To register your child for the camp, call the BFAC at 254-559-6602. The cost will be $3 per child.

The art camp sessions will be divided by age group as follows:

  • Kindergarten-first grade:  9:30 – 10:30 a.m.
  • Second and third grades: 10:45 a.m.  – Noon
  • Fourth through sixth grades: 1 – 2:30 p.m.
  • Seventh and eighth grades: 2:30 – 4 p.m.

Theater Camp
Friends of Historic Breckenridge will host the Missoula’s Children Theatre again this summer for a week-long camp Monday through Saturday, July 16-21.

The camp is for kids in kindergarten through 12th grade, and the cost is $50 per student.

This year the children will present “Gulliver’s Travel” at the end of the camp on Saturday, July 21.

Family Swim Nights
The Breckenridge City Pool is hosting several Family Swim Nights this summer, and there are two more upcoming events.

The next Family Swim Night will be from 7:45 to 9:45 p.m. Thursday, July 19. The final Family Swim Night will be on July 26, from 7:45 to 9:45 p.m.

The entry fee during the events will be $1.25 per person for everyone over the age of 3. Attendees may bring food and drinks to the event.

The pool is located in the Breckenridge City Park, aka Miller Park, at Old Caddo Road, just off of East Walker Street.

Extension Service Classes
The Stephens County Extension Service is offering a variety of classes this summer, including the upcoming pottery and terrarium classes for kids.

The Pottery Class will be for kids in grades 2-12 and will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.Monday, July 23, at the Extension office, 2622 Highway 180 East (at the intersection of State Highway 67 and U.S. Highway 180). The fee for the class will be $35 per student, and the class is limited to 15 kids. Attendees will need to take a sack lunch.

The Terrarium Class will also be for kids in grades 2-12, and it will be from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday, July31, at the Extension office. The fee for the class will be $35 per student, and the class is limited to 15 kids.

Summer Reading Program
The Breckenridge Library is offering a Summer Reading Program at 2 p.m.  every Tuesday through July 10. The program is for elementary age kids in pre-K through sixth grade. For more information, visit the library at 209 N. Breckenridge Ave. or call 254-559-5505.
