BISD school board to study district’s dress code
At their meeting Monday night, Breckenridge Independent School District trustees agreed to have Board President Jeff Dooley assign a sub-committee to consider making changes to the BISD dress code.
BISD Superintendent Tim Seymore said an issue about the dress code came up recently which prompted a discussion among a couple of the district’s administrators, himself and Dooley. He said Dooley suggested they put together a sub-committee to study the issue.
Seymore said Dooley will appoint two or three school board members to the sub-committee that will meet with the administrators at each school and get their input on recommendations they have for the dress code.
The sub-committee will report back to the board with those recommendations. Then, if the board wants to implement any of the changes, it will be added to the agenda of a public school board meeting. During the meeting, citizens will be able to sign up to speak about the proposed changes. The board will then vote on making the changes.
Seymore said there have not been changes to the dress code in several years. He said a couple of years ago they looked one piece of the dress code but the entire dress code hasn’t been looked at in a long time.
“We haven’t really looked at it as whole and looked at how things have changed, and should we change things in the dress code,” he said.
He said he expects there will be some changes made to the dress code once the committee and school board have reviewed the dress code.
“I think there are some things that might change,” he said. “I don’t think anything more restrictive; I think it will be less restrictive. I don’t think we’re looking to outlaw anything else.”
He said any changes made to the dress code will be made in a public meeting.
The BISD Board of Trustees also recognized the Students of the Month at their meeting Monday. See the photos below for details.
