Family, friends, community members and others gathered at the Stephens County Courthouse in downtown Breckenridge on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25, to honor local veterans who passed away during 2025.

About 35 volunteers walked throughout the Breckenridge Cemetery this morning, Saturday, May 23, to place flags on the graves of those who served in the U.S. military.
Jim Merson and Les Strickland will welcome anyone who wants to volunteer to help with the annual flag placement on Saturday morning, May 23.
At 10 a.m. this morning, Monday, May 26, the in a ceremony on the courthouse lawn, 200 W. Walker St. in Breckenridge, members of the local Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7767 and Auxiliary, along with Stephens County residents, will pay their respects to those Stephens County veterans who have died in the past year.
Retired U.S. Navy veteran Jim Merson and Les Strickland, the Stephens County Veterans Service Officer and a retired U.S. Marine, will be at the cemetery at 8 a.m. Saturday, May 24, to put out the flags for Memorial Day.
The annual VFW Memorial Day Ceremony will take place on the Stephens County Courthouse lawn, 200 W. Walker St., at 10 a.m. Monday, May 27.
Volunteers are needed next Saturday, May 25, to help place American flags on the graves of U.S. Military veterans buried in the Breckenridge Cemetery.
Eighteen names were added to the monument this year.
The annual Memorial Day Ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. Monday, May 29, on the Stephens County Courthouse lawn.
They will get started at 8 a.m. Saturday, May 27, in the Breckenridge Cemetery.
