Millie Walling, who won the local Hoop Shoot contest earlier this month in the Girls 8-9 category, won the district contest in Arlington on Jan. 18.

Five young people from Breckenridge will represent the community at the district Hoop Shoot free throw contest later this month.

The annual Elks Hoop Shoot free throw contest for kids ages 8 to 13 is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 5, at LT Cook gym on North Smith Street, across from the junior high school. The local competition will be hosted by Elks Lodge No. 1480.

Two winners of the local Elks Club Hoop Shoot held in Breckenridge on Jan. 7 won first place at the Elks Club District Competition in Arlington on Jan. 20 and will now advance to the state championship on Feb. 17-18 in Dallas.

Stephens County’s Elks Lodge No. 1480 held its annual Hoop Shoot free throw contest last week, and the four top winners will be going to the district competition on Sunday, Jan. 20.
