Rex ‘Butch’ Allen Sullivan
Rex Allen Sullivan, 73, of Woodson, Texas, passed away on June 1, 2026. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. June 10, 2026, at the First Baptist Church in Woodson, with Jeremy Smith officiating.
Rex Sullivan was born on Nov. 20, 1952, to parents Mary Aline and TB Sullivan in Olney, Texas. He was a feisty little boy full of mischief as told by many stories over the years. He was definitely a typical little brother to older sister, Leva. He spent his youth and young adult years racing cross country motorcycles. If you knew him well you’ve probably heard some of tales and wondered how he even lived up to this moment He had his first son, John Sullivan, in 1969. He met and married Cindy Savage in 1976 and had three girls, Heather in 1981, Ashlee in 1986, and Whitney in 1990, who sadly passed at birth.
If you knew Rex, you know he loved to talk and tell stories. He had a story for every moment and subject, and if he didn’t have a legit story, he would make up something crazy to make us all laugh. He loved deeper than anyone I’ve ever known; his kids and his grandkids were truly the thing he lived each and every day for. He never cared what he accomplished but was always the biggest fan and supporter and bragger of each and every thing each of us did. He loved the little town of Woodson and believed there was truly not a better place in the world to live. He believed in Woodson ISD so much and spent more than decade on the school board, believing in every fiber of his being that this little school was making a difference in this world. He was a jack of all trades, except electronics and computers; keep those away. But anything that could done with his hands, he could make it happen. As children, he built us kids a playground at our house so exquisite out of oil field junk that most of our friends thought it was the park. For many, many years, he made fully handmade knives and hand sewn sheaths for each; they are a treasure that many of us will never part with. The true story of his life could go on and on between his endless jokes, pranks, scaring the wits out of kids, endless crazy situations. Life with him was never dull and will never be the same without him.
Rex was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Aline Donnell and TB Sullivan; his wife, Cynthia Dianne Sullivan; sister, Leva Lee; and daughter Whitney Dianne.
