Ceremony honors Breckenridge High School’s Class of 2026 as they graduated Friday, May 22
The crowd gathered in the Breckenridge ISD Athletic Center Friday night, May 22, was quiet and respectful as the Breckenridge High School Class of 2026 graduates entered the gym to the tune of the traditional processional “Pomp and Circumstance.”

The students and their families and friends were welcomed by BHS/BJHS Principal Laura Gibson, and Student Council Treasurer and member of the Class of 2026 Lizandra Rubio gave the invocation. Then, Gibson and Paul Armstrong, former BHS principal and current director of safety and security, presented special awards.
Following the speeches by Salutatorian Julio Chavez and Valedictorian Cameron David, the diplomas were presented by Gibson, Armstrong, BISD superintendent Prairie Freeman and others. The students were congratulated by members of the school board and other school district officials.
Kason Burchett gave the benediction, and the crowd joined the students in singing the school song.
The Class of 2026 Student Council officers included President Lane Bartoskewitz, Vice President Abbigail Duran, Secretary Reagan Robinson, Treasurer Lizandra Rubio and Reporter Ava Russell.
In additional to their “Buckaroo green” caps and gowns, many of the graduated wore special collars or cords. Those students were recognized for their special achievements and memberships, including National Honor Society (white collar), FFA (blue and corn gold), Dual Credit (gold cord), SAT/ACT Endorsements (purple), Industrial Arts (kelly green), Dual Blood Donors (red cord), FCCLA (red and white), Dual Language ESL Endorsements (maroon), and STUCO (silver). Additionally, those students who have enlisted in the U.S. Military were honored, along with those with other achievements.
Scholarships and other awards were presented at a ceremony earlier in the month.
