DRT members donate Texas history books to Breckenridge Library
Billie O’Neal and Helen Haddock, members of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, recently donated two books to the Breckenridge Library: “Remember the Alamo” by Paul Walker and “Captain Putnam for the Republic of Texas” by James Haley.
“Remember the Alamo: Texians, Tejanos, and Mexicans Tell Their Stories” by Paul Robert Walker is a 2007 juvenile nonfiction book that offers a perspective on the Battle of the Alamo by including the viewpoints of all sides: Texians (American/European-born Texans), Tejanos (Mexican-born Texans), and Mexicans. It is recommended for ages 10 and up, and it is the winner of the 2007 June Franklin Naylor Award from the Daughters of the Republic of Texas for the best book for children on Texas history.
“Captain Putnam for the Republic of Texas” is a novel by James Haley. It tells the tale of Capt. Bliven Putnam who embeds himself within a top-secret mission during the Texas Revolution. It is a part of Haley’s Bliven Putnam Naval Adventure series.
