The new digital scoreboard at Buckaroos Stadium started to take shape on Wednesday afternoon when workers used a crane to lift the scoreboard’s large metal frame and attach it to the mounting pole that was installed earlier in the week.

The scoreboard is located on the north end of the stadium between the goalpost and the visitors’ section in the bleachers. According to BISD Athletic Director Casey Pearce, the new scoreboard is expected to be installed and operational in time for the season opener against the Jacksboro Tigers on Friday, Aug. 26., or earlier.

The new scoreboard will replace the older scoreboard on the south end of the stadium that was installed in 1998.  The digital scoreboard could last 12 to 15 years, Pearce said during a May 12 BISD school board meeting when BISD Trustees approved the purchase. After that, the technology will likely be outdated and will need to be replaced.

Pearce first brought the topic before the school board at the February meeting, where he said that the current scoreboard is bulb-based and difficult to repair. He presented several options for new, digital scoreboards that have video and advertising features. At the earlier board meeting, Pearce also talked about how the digital scoreboard will offer training opportunities for the students taking Career and Technology Education classes.

Buckaroo fans can get a first-hand look at the progress of the new scoreboard’s installation when the Breckenridge High School Athletic Department hosts the annual Meet the Bucks event from 8 to 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12, at Buckaroo Stadium.

In addition to getting a look at the new scoreboard, the event will also be a chance for the community to meet the junior varsity and varsity football players and coaches, JV and varsity volleyball players and coaches, cross-country runners and coaches, 2022-23 varsity cheerleaders, and the Pride of Breckenridge Buckaroo Band.

Also, Buckaroo varsity football season ticket renewals are open for those who had season tickets during the 2021 football season. The renewals will be open until 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12.

All unclaimed/unsold season passes will be opened for sale to the public at 8 a.m. Monday, Aug. 15.
