BISD gym opened as temporary shelter as power goes out in western Stephens County
As temperatures dropped to 7 degrees, the electric power went out in the Hubbard Creek Lake area around 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 14. Stephens County and Breckenridge officials went into action, opening up an emergency shelter at the BISD Athletic Facility (aka “the big gym”).
According to the Oncor website, more than 900 homes are without power, which is estimated to be restored about 10 p.m.
Roads in the area continue to be hazardous after snow has fallen most of the day.
If you or someone you know needs transportation to the gym, call the Breckenridge Police Department’s non-emergency number, 254-559-2211, to arrange for assistance. County Judge Michael Roach is organizing law enforcement and volunteers to help local residents who need to go to the temporary shelter.
The gym is located next to Breckenridge High School, at the intersection of West Second Street and North Smith Street.
