Bucks to kickoff 2026 varsity football season tonight against Comanche
The Breckenridge Buckaroos varsity football team will travel to Comanche today, Friday, Aug. 28, to take on the Comanche High School Indians in the first game of the 2026 season.
Like Breckenridge, Comanche moved from 3A-DI to 3A-DII after the UIL reconfigured the classification cutoff numbers last December. Although the two teams were in the same district last year, this year Comanche is in Region II District 5 and Breckenridge is in Region I District 4.
The pre-district game will begin at 7:30 p.m. this evening in Indian Stadium, 1600 N. Austin St. (State Highway 16) in Comanche. General admission tickets cost $5 each and can be purchased online (click here).
The Buckaroos started off this season with the annual intrasquad Watermelon Scrimmage, followed by scrimmages against Dublin and Millsap. Click here to see the Breckenridge Texan’s Photo Gallery from the Watermelon Scrimmage.
On Friday, Aug. 21, the Breckenridge community had a chance to “Meet the Bucks” – the Buckaroo football teams, along with the volleyball teams, cross country squad, marching band, and cheerleaders – at the annual event. After the teams were introduced, the Buckaroo seniors presented elementary school kids attending the event with Spirit of the Buckaroo medallions. The home opener will be next week, Sept. 4, when the Early Longhorns come to Buckaroo Stadium for the Breckenridge Homecoming game. The annual Buckaroo Homecoming Parade will take place in downtown Breckenridge on Wednesday, Sept. 2. This year’s theme is “Under the Lights: Where Traditions Shine Bright.” Click here for more Homecoming 2026 details.
