Billy Earl Flournoy
Billy Earl Flournoy, 88, of Breckenridge, Texas, passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2026.
A visitation will be held on Friday, June 19, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Morehart Mortuary in Breckenridge. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, June 20, at 2 p.m. at Necessity Baptist Church, with burial immediately following at Necessity Cemetery.
Billy was born on April 6, 1938, in Necessity, Texas, to Earl and Gertrude Flournoy. He graduated from Breckenridge High School and attended Texas A&M University before joining the Armed Forces. Billy proudly served the country he loved and respected for eight years.
While stationed in Germany, Billy began writing letters to Frances Page, the sister of one of his Army buddies. Upon returning to the United States, he traveled to Ohio to meet the beautiful woman with curly hair he had come to know through those letters, and the rest is history. Billy and Frances were married on March 12, 1965, and built a beautiful life together over 61 years of marriage, raising three children and enjoying the blessings of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Billy began his working career at Whitman Drug in Breckenridge, where he proudly served as a “soda jerk.” While living in Ohio, he managed a filling station that became like a small-town gathering place for friends and neighbors. He later worked for United Airlines for several years before returning to his beloved Texas in 1979.
The remainder of his career was spent with R.E. Dye Manufacturing, where he “retired” several times before finally hanging up his hat at age 75. In addition to his manufacturing career, Billy raised cattle on the land he loved — the same land where he was born and raised. He was a true cow whisperer and treated them like close pets alongside his treasured dogs through the years. He also had a truly remarkable gift for calming fussy babies even his baby brother.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Gertrude Flournoy.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Frances “Elizabeth” Flournoy; his son, William Earl (Melynda) Flournoy of Breckenridge; his daughters, Cynthia (Brian) Billington of College Station and Theresa (Blake) Foster of Cross Plains; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his sister, Nancy Kime of Breckenridge; and his brothers, Dale of San Diego, Russell (Kathleen) of Breckenridge, Larry (Mary Frances) of Whitney, and Caroll (Nancy) of Weatherford. He is also survived by numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Billy’s greatest joy was his family. His patience, kindness, wisdom, and spirit of sacrifice touched countless lives and will continue to live on through all who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either Our Town in Breckenridge or Necessity Baptist Church.
