Murder suspect Shane Anthony, age 47, of Breckenridge, appeared in the Stephens County district courtroom this afternoon, Thursday, June 11, for the first preliminary hearing in the case surrounding the death of 24-year-old Chyra Davis.

Dee Peavy, 90th Judicial District Attorney for Stephens and Young counties, said that this was the first of what will likely be several pre-trial hearings.

“At this point, we don’t have all of our evidence back that’s been sent off … for testing … by the labs,” Peavy said. “… so everything’s a little premature at this point.”

Anthony, who was wearing the local orange and white jail uniform, was escorted into the courtroom by law enforcement officers, along with another defendant who also had a hearing this afternoon.

Anthony remains in the Stephens County jail on four charges – one for murder and three for tampering with evidence. His bail is set at $1.6 million — $1 million for the murder charge and $200,000 for each tampering charge.

Assistant DA Jamie Petruzzi said there will be at least two more similar hearings, where the DA’s office and the defense attorneys get a chance to talk about the case, see if there’s any more evidence, etc.

Peavy said Anthony was indicted by a Stephens County grand jury on April 10 and on May 21 waived his formal arraignment, entering a plea of not guilty to the charges.

The pre-trial hearings are held so that each side of the case can discuss whether or not they’ve received all of the evidence, file motions, etc., Peavy said.

Anthony was originally arrested on Jan. 27, 2026, on a charge of tampering with a human corpse. The following day, Jan. 28, the murder charge was added.

Davis had been the subject of a multi-county search; she was originally from Mineral Wells, had been living in Breckenridge and had family in Graham. The family posted “missing person” posters online for several days and was working with the police and Texas Rangers to try and locate her.

Her family became concerned on Jan. 18 when she suddenly disconnected from a TikTok conversation they were having with her and she didn’t contact them again. The family said she was last seen the night of Jan. 18 at the Breckenridge residence where she lived with Anthony.

Davis was found deceased on Jan. 27 by the Texas Rangers and Breckenridge police at a residence at 602 S. O’Connor St., during their investigation into her disappearance. At the time Davis’ body was discovered, Anthony was not in custody, but he was named as a person of interest and was being sought by police. Later that evening, Breckenridge Police Chief Blake Johnson reported that Anthony had been located and taken into custody.

Peavy and Petruzzi said that they do not anticipate any additional people being charged in connection to the murder.

“I think the (Texas) Ranger felt (Anthony) acted alone, after doing his investigation,” Petruzzi said.
