Beginning Monday, April 27, a contractor for the Texas Department of Transportation will close all lanes of the Hubbard Creek Reservoir Bridge — aka the “Mile-Long Bridge” — to perform routine bridge maintenance.

Although a full closure of the bridge was not anticipated, it has become necessary close the roadway for crews to complete this maintenance work, according to a news release from Lisa Tipton, public information officer for TxDOT’s Brownwood district.

The work is expected to take about one week to complete. However, if work progresses as planned and weather conditions remain favorable, crews may finish in as little as five days, the news release states.

During the closure, a detour route with signs will be established for heavy truck and heavy/wide loads; see a map of the detour below or click here to download a PDF of the map. Local motorists are encouraged to use the route or seek an alternative route.

TxDOT encourages drivers to plan ahead, follow posted detour signs, and allow extra travel time during the closure. The public’s patience is appreciated as crews work to complete the routine maintenance as quickly and safely as possible, Tipton said in the news release.
