Former Buckaroo Jerry Lawson transferring to Oklahoma State University
According to various news reports, former Breckenridge Buckaroo Jerry Lawson is transferring to Oklahoma State University in Stillwater to play football for the Cowboys.
Marshall Scott with the Pistols Firing Blog reports that Lawson will be joining Oklahoma State’s new defensive coordinator, Skyler Cassity, who was the defensive coordinator at Abilene Christian University in 2022-23.
After he graduated from Breckenridge High School in 2023, Lawson was a defensive lineman for ACU for two seasons (2023 and 2024) before transferring to the University of Louisville during the 2024 offseason.
According to Oklahoma State, newly hired head football coach Eric Morris named Cassity as defensive coordinator last month, the first member of his new coaching staff.
Lawson entered the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) football transfer portal, which opened on Jan. 2. The portal is an online database managed by the NCAA where student-athletes declare their intent to transfer.
Some of the teams Lawson will be playing next season include the University of Houston (in Houston) and Texas Tech University (in Stillwater).
