Dec. 31 is the deadline for our annual fundraising campaign. There’s still time to help support the Breckenridge Texan!
By Tony Pilkington/Publisher, Breckenridge Texan
Two days remain in the Breckenridge Texan’s annual fundraising campaign — today and Wednesday, Dec. 31. Any donations received during this time will help push the Breckenridge Texan closer to our goal.
Donations made before 11:59 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, will be quadrupled through the NewsMatch project. This year, as a local, non-profit newsroom, we qualified for three fundraising matches. That means every donation we receive (up to $2,500) will garner us four times as much money. So, your $100 donation will become a $400 donation; $250 becomes $1,000; $500 becomes $2,000.
Every donation, regardless of the amount, counts toward our total and directly benefits the Breckenridge Texan.
This marks the eighth year the Breckenridge Texan has participated in NewsMatch. While the program provides vital matching funds, our success depends entirely on support from the local community. As a non-profit news site, the Breckenridge Texan relies on donations — in addition to advertising revenue — to cover daily operating costs, including website hosting, email services, internet access, office supplies, and payments to freelance writers and photographers.
Each year, the response from our readers has been both humbling and encouraging. When we (husband and wife team Tony Pilkington and Carla McKeown) founded the Breckenridge Texan in 2017, we established it as a non-profit organization to ensure local control of local news and to avoid placing a heavy financial burden on the community. While grants and programs such as NewsMatch help extend the impact of each dollar, individual and business donations remain essential.
There are several ways you can contribute:
• Donate directly through the Breckenridge Texan’s donation site
• Visit the Breckenridge Texan’s page on the NewsMatch website and click “Donate”
• Mail a check to P.O. Box 1228, Breckenridge, Texas 76424 — Please note that in order to count toward the NewsMatch campaign, checks need to be dated no later than Dec. 31, 2025.
Online donations will appear on billing statements under the name of the Breckenridge Texan’s fiscal sponsor, the Institute for Nonprofit News (also known as Investigative News Network), but all contributions are credited to the Breckenridge Texan.
More information about the Breckenridge Texan is available in our “About Us” section, and our Donor Transparency policy can also be found online.
Thank you for your support. We appreciate it greatly.
