TxDOT scheduled to apply sealcoat to highways in Stephens County this week
July 28
07:26 2025

Beginning Wednesday, July 30, (weather permitting), a Texas Department of Transportation contractor, Wagner & Co., will begin the district-wide application of sealcoat to state roadways throughout the Brownwood District, which includes Stephens, Eastland, Brown, Coleman, Comanche, Lampasas, McCulloch, Mills and San Saba counties, according to a news release from TxDOT.

Sealcoat is a layer of liquid asphalt which is topped with small rocks. It is applied as preventative maintenance to seal cracks, increase traction and prolong the life of the roadway.

The project in Stephens County will include the following locations:

  • U.S. Highway 183: From the Throckmorton county line to one mile north of Hubbard Creek
  • U.S. Highway 180: From the Shackelford county line to the west side of the Mile Long Bridge on U.S. 180
  • Loop 252: From U.S. Highway 180 west of Caddo to U.S. Highway 180 east of Caddo
  • U.S. Highway 180: From FM 287 to just east of State Highway 67
  • FM 1032: From the west end of pavement to U.S. Highway 183
  • FM 2408: From the Shackelford county line to FM 1853

Some road maintenance has already been underway in parts of Stephens County over the past couple of weeks.

It is scheduled to be a fast-moving project that will work its way through the district. Updates and schedule of this project will be posted, as work progresses, to TxDOT Brownwood District’s social media platforms: Facebook (Texas Department of Transportation Brownwood), X (@TxDOTBWD), Nextdoor (Texas Department of Transportation), and Instagram (TxDOTBrownwood).
