The Breckenridge Economic Development Corporation and Texas State Technical College are teaming up to bring a new CNC machining (Computer Numerical Control machining) program to Breckenridge.

The BEDC is investing more than $90,000 in the program, including more than $58,000 for a HAAS Mini Mill CNC Machine and up to eight full scholarships valued up to $4,000 for students enrolled in the Fall 2025 TSTC Fast Trac CNC Machining Course to be held at the Breckenridge campus. Additionally, the BEDC will help with the marketing efforts for the program. The BEDC  Board of Directors and the Breckenridge City Commission recently approved the BEDC’s assistance to TSTC.

The collaboration is aimed at equipping local and area residents with in-demand manufacturing skills and supporting job placement and long-term economic growth in Breckenridge and Stephens County. The BEDC also recently approved a $150,000 in Cash-for-Jobs Incentives package for R.E. Dye Manufacturing to support the company’s modernization efforts and adoption of advanced machining technologies, enhancing profitability and ensuring long-term sustainability.

The 130-hour evening course at TSTC is designed to help students gain the hands-on skills that many employers are looking for in manufacturing and precision machining. Students will get experience in machining fundamentals, measurement and quality control, machine tool math, safety, and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T). Graduates of the program are expected to be better prepared to enter well-paying manufacturing roles in the region.

The program is scheduled for Aug. 25-Nov. 6 with classes held from 6 to 9 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays at the TSTC-Breckenridge campus. Adults interested in a career transition are encouraged to apply, as well as recent high school graduates or those with a GED.

To encourage participation, the BEDC is offering eight full scholarships valued at $4,000 each to be used for tuition, books and fees. To be eligible for the scholarships, individuals must:

  • Be 18 years or older by the program start date
  • Reside in one of six counties: Stephens, Young, Palo Pinto, Eastland, Shackelford or Throckmorton
  • Hold a high school diploma or GED
  • Are accepted or currently enrolled in the TSTC CNC Machining Program

Applicants must also submit:

  • A completed application form
  • A 300–500 word personal statement
  • Proof of residency and education
  • A $100 refundable deposit
  • A letter of recommendation

Scholarship selection will be based on demonstrated interest in manufacturing careers, financial need, workforce commitment, and community engagement. Applicants will also be asked to complete a short written problem-solving exercise during their interview.
