Family and friends of the Breckenridge High School Class of 2025 filled the BISD Athletic Center on Friday, May 23, for the annual Commencement Ceremony.
Ninety-two graduates wearing the traditional Buckaroo green caps and gowns were awarded their diplomas during the event. Many of the graduates also wore special collars, sashes (stoles) and/or cords signifying various honors, worn in addition to the white BHS sash.

Following the invocation by Jack McKay, BHS Principal Paul Armstrong welcomed guests, school district officials and the school board. Then, he presented several special awards, including the Salutatorian and Valedictorian awards, as well as certificates to this year’s academic top 10 percent. Armstrong announced that Valedictorian Antley Rodgers had a 4.467 GPS, and Salutatorian Timothy Newell had a 4.318 GPA.
Armstrong recognized those students who had special achievements and memberships, including Honor Graduates, National Honor Society, FFA, Lonestar Participants, Dual Credit, SAT/ACT Endorsements, Industrial Arts, Dual Blood Donors, FCCLA, Rotary Interact Club, U.S. Military enlistees, and CPR training.
Newell and Rodgers then gave the salutatory and valedictory speeches.
Breckenridge Independent School District Superintendent Prairie Freeman made the presentation of the class. Then, Armstrong read each graduate’s name, and BISD School Board President Nic McClymond and others presented the diplomas to the students. The district’s administration and school board members congratulated the graduates as they returned to their seats.
After the diplomas had been awarded, BHS Student Council President John Sackett gave the benediction, followed by the senior cheerleaders and Student Council senior officers leading the students and guests in singing the school song. The event wrapped up as the graduates tossed their caps into the air.
As they left the gym, the graduates were congratulated by the faculty and staff in attendance. Outside, many posed for pictures with family and friends.
Scholarships and other awards were presented at a ceremony earlier in the month.
