Stephens Memorial Hospital staff introduces new mammography machine with ribbon-cutting ceremony

Stephens Memorial Hospital held a ribbon-cutting ceremony with the Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday afternoon, May 7, for the hospital’s new mammography machine.
The hospital recently purchased a Fujifilm Aspire Cristalle 3-D mammography machine that offers local patients a more comfortable mammogram, along with improved diagnostic accuracy with a lower radiation dose.
The machine was purchased with funds raised by the Stephens Memorial Hospital Foundation and the SMH Auxiliary — aka Pink Ladies. The SMH Foundation raised more than $8,000 with its inaugural Winter Gala/Masquerade Ball in January. And, through their fundraisers and SMH Gift Shop sales, the auxiliary raised $6,000 to go toward the purchase of the mammography machine.
SMH will be celebrating National Hospital Week next week, May 11-17, with the annual cookout. The hospital staff will be serving hamburgers and hotdogs to anyone who wants to stop by from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, May 16, on the front lawn of the hospital, 200 S. Geneva St. The event is free to the public.
The hospital is currently holding a fundraiser for the Senior Meal Program and the annual Back-to-School Bash, where they give away backpacks packed with schools supplies to students getting ready to start school. The raffle fundraiser includes two portable, folding outdoor chairs (GCI Outdoor Freestyle Rockers with side tables), a rolling cooler and a cornhole board set. Tickets cost $5 each or five for $20. Tickets are available at the front desk of the hospital, and the drawing will be held on May 16.
