Events planned for Frontier Days on Friday-Saturday, May 2-3

Stephens County Frontier Days is set to bring a full weekend of festivities to Breckenridge on May 2-3, highlighted by the return of the Bob Drake Memorial Chuck Wagon Cook-off Clear Fork Championship, stick horse races, and a gunfighter show, as well as new activities, including a rock climbing wall, mechanical bull rides, and a performance by an area clogging group. Other events scheduled for the weekend at the Breckenridge City Park include the annual Miss Breckenridge pageant and the Breck’s Got Talent show.
Hosted by the Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce, the 2025 Stephens County Frontier Days will kick off Friday, May 2, at 11 a.m. with the opening of vendor booths on the north side of the trade barn and activities such as the Teddy Bear Mobile, a teddy bear-stuffing booth, and live music performances. The song swap will feature local musicians Jared McLane, Cable Perkins, Parks Gill, and Will Cooksey, beginning at 7 p.m. at the Trade Barn located in the park.
New attractions this year include a 28-foot rock climbing wall provided by Gravity’s Edge and a mechanical bull, both available for adults and children in the Kid Zone. The Economic Development Corporation has contributed $10,000 to bring the mechanical bull to Frontier Days. Rides on the mechanical bull will cost $1 each. The rock climbing activity will cost about $20 for four climbing attempts, Maylun VanWinkle, event manager — and upcoming executive director — for the Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce, said. The Bob Drake Memorial Chuck Wagon Cook-off Clear Fork Championship will feature wagon judging on Friday afternoon, followed by cooking competitions Saturday. Over $4,000 in prize money and custom-made championship belt buckles will be awarded in categories including meat, bread, beans, potatoes, and desserts. Tickets for meals from the chuckwagons cost $15 each and are now available at at the Chamber office, 100 E. Elm St. This year, the sponsor of the event is Clear Fork Bank, which will also host the Weenie Wagon, offering free hot dogs for everyone.
The 2025 Miss Breckenridge Pageant will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 3, at the Trade Barn in the Breckenridge City Park, and the annual Breck’s Got Talent event will begin at 5 p.m.
Saturday’s schedule will also feature a 5K Color Burst Run hosted by Stephens Memorial; a volleyball tournament; a bake-off; Old West gunfighter reenactments at 1 p.m., 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.; chainsaw carving demonstrations by Jimmy Hobbs (click here to see some of his work); and a performance by the Klassy Kloggers from Weatherford at 11 a.m.. Food options will include offerings from local favorites such as Sweet Cheeks Barbecue, El Patio de Luna, and Mom’s Fried Pies, along with vendors selling honey products, jams and jellies, and customized trucker hats. There will also be a beer garden, hosted by Soggy Dog Wine and Brew.
Children can enjoy pony rides, stick horse races, a three-legged race, inflatable bounce houses from Inflate the Fun (required entry fee), and first responder displays featuring AirMed helicopter landings, local police, EMS, and fire departments.
Frontier Days will also host Breck’s Got Talent, a disc golf tournament, a human slot machine game organized by the Lions Club, and a beer garden adjacent to the volleyball courts.
The BISD Class of 2026 will host Cow Patty Bingo at Breckenridge City Park at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 3. Tickets cost $10 each, offering participants a chance to win up to $1,500. The winning square will be determined by where the first cow patty lands, and winners do not need to be present.
Bake-Off
The 2025 Frontier Days Bake-Off will be Saturday, May 3, at the Trade Barn in the Breckenridge City Park.
The entry fee will be $5 each.The entries will be judged on three criteria, taste, appearance and best overall. The winners will receive cash prizes: First Place, $100; Second Place, $75; Third Place, $25.

Color Burst 5K
Stephens Memorial Hospital will host the Color Burst 5K and Color Burst 1K Fun Run as part of the upcoming Stephens County Frontier Days celebration. The Color Burst 5K & 1K will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, May 3, at the Breckenridge City Park.
The Color Burst 5K is open to participants of all ages and features an untimed, minimally competitive course. Runners will be showered with colorful powders throughout the route, creating a festive and vibrant wardrobe at the end. Participants are encouraged to wear white or light-colored clothing to enhance the color effect. Children in 5th grade and below must be accompanied by an adult, and children under age 5 may join an adult participant at no cost.
The Color Burst 1K Fun Run is designed for children through 5th grade and offers a short, playful course to enjoy the festivities.
Registration packets will be available for pickup at the Breckenridge City Park Trade Barn on Friday, May 2, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and on Saturday, May 3, beginning at 7:30 a.m. and continuing until the start of the race.
Race day begins at 7:30 a.m. with registration, followed by the 1K Fun Run at 8 a.m. and the 5K Color Burst Run at 8:30 a.m.
