A Stephens County man died late Tuesday, March 18, when his car crashed on FM 2231, west of Breckenridge.

Justice of the Peace Steve Spoon pronounced Rodger Dale Yoes, who was 38 years old, deceased at the scene of the accident.

The wreck occurred at about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday on FM 2231, about a mile north of U.S. Highway 180 West, according to Stephens County Sheriff Kevin Roach.

According to the preliminary official report from the Texas Department of Public Safety, the 2004 Dodge Ram pickup “was traveling north on FM 2231. The driver entered a curve at an unsafe speed, causing the vehicle to veer off the roadway. (The vehicle) then skid into a barrow ditch and crossed over a private driveway before overturning, which resulted in the driver being ejected from the vehicle. The driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.”

The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office, Breckenridge Fire Department, Sacred Cross EMS, Breckenridge Police Department, and the Department of Public Safety responded to the scene.

The accident is still under investigation.
