Bobby Pittman

Bobby Jack Pittman, 70, passed away on March 3, 2025, in Arlington, Texas. A graveside service will be held for Bobby at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 7, at Veale Creek Cemetery with J.B. Sparks officiating.

Bobby was born to Walter and Maggie Pittman on May 2, 1954. Bobby and his family lived at Possum Kingdom Lake until 1961, when they moved to Breckenridge, Texas. Bobby’s Dad, Walter, was a volunteer Little League coach in Breckenridge, and Bobby enjoyed playing baseball during his early years. He attended Breckenridge schools, graduated from high school, and then went to work in the oil fields.

Bobby was involved in an oilfield accident while working in Oklahoma in 1979, resulting in him being paralyzed from the waist down and confined to a wheelchair at the young age of 25. Bobby did not let that prevent him from living life to its fullest. He “Hit the Ground Wheeling.” He quickly adapted to his situation and learned to overcome it. He drove cars and even bought a speedboat in 1988, which, believe it or not, he operated by himself. He still owned that boat the day he passed away.

He decided that life was too slow for him in the country, so he moved to Arlington, Texas, where he attended the University of Texas at Arlington and received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1986 and then completed the El Centro College Computer Programmer Training for the Physically Challenged Program in 1988 in Dallas, Texas. Bobby worked in the computer programming field for many years, including companies such as The Tandy Company, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and The City of Arlington.

Bobby made his home in the city but never forgot about his roots in the country. He frequently showed up for family events in Breckenridge and Graham for his mother and her family, and Throckmorton for his father’s family. Family was always important to him, and it was very apparent that he enjoyed the fellowship with his kinfolk.

Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Pittman and Maggie Dooley Pittman Lay.

He is survived by his brother, James Pittman of Breckenridge; his stepfather, David Lay of Breckenridge; and a slew of nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers and in honor of Bobby Jack, donations may be made to the charity of your choice, and condolences can be left at meltonkitchens.com.
