ElJoy Mueller was born February 14, 1931, in Breckenridge, Texas, to parents, Edward Mueller and Mary Williams Mueller. After high school, she attended Sul Ross in Alpine. ElJoy worked at a country radio station in San Angelo, which she loved. In her younger years, she served as a USO volunteer, traveling with groups of other young ladies to military dances for the soldiers. On August 14, 1954, she married Lloyd Calvin “Smittie” Smith in Breckenridge. Over the years, she also worked at Barnes & Williams Drug, McMahan Drug, Dunegan Tool & Supply, as well as a local insurance company. Smittie opened Smittie’s Exxon and ElJoy kept the books for the business. Some may even remember her as their local Tupperware lady. Joy served as a Girl Scout leader while her daughters were in Scouts. She loved lake living, being outdoors and tending to the yard and garden. She enjoyed waterskiing, boating and having fish frys. A favorite pastime of ElJoy’s was reading and watching the Gaither’s television show, along with Gunsmoke and Wagon Train. She loved her Lord Jesus and was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church. She sang in the choir and did fundraising by selling Corsicana fruitcakes. Joy fiercely loved her grandchildren, greats and nieces and nephews. She enjoyed family gatherings, barbecues and family reunions.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband.
