Stella Louise Sanders went home to her Heavenly Father on January 26, 2025. Her funeral service at Melton-Kitchens Chapel of Memories will be held on Monday, February 3, beginning at 2 p.m. with Patrick Frishe officiating; her interment will follow under the direction of Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home.

Stella will be remembered by her family as a loving, determined, and fiercely independent woman who loved life, Jesus, and her family wholeheartedly. Stella loved quilting more than anything and could often be found in her quilt shop or her recliner in her room working on a quilt square or embroidery.

She was born to Vida and James Beaird on August 7, 1946, in Caddo, Oklahoma. Her family moved to Breckenridge when she was very young, and Stella attended Breckenridge schools until she married her first husband. Stella married the love of her life, Bobby Sanders, on August 2, 1971, in a pastor’s office in Oklahoma. Stella and Bobby moved their new family to Denver, Colorado, where Bobby worked with Frontier Airlines.

They moved back to Texas when Bobby was transferred to the Dallas/Ft Worth area. The family then moved back to Breckenridge in 1982, where they made their own home for the rest of their lives. Stella was a lifelong member of Gunsight Baptist Church. Stella also served the City of Breckenridge as Municipal Court Judge for 20 years before retiring and becoming a quilt shop owner.

Stella was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby; her parents, Vida and James; her brothers, James, Wayne, and Zane; her sister, Joyce; and daughter-in-law, Andrea.

She is survived by her sisters, Shelia Fournier, Wanda Abraham, and Billie Stephens of Breckenridge; her daughter, Robin Sanders of Breckenridge; her son, Robert Sanders of Breckenridge; granddaughter Amanda Roberson and her husband Derek Roberson of Breckenridge; grandson Corey Sanders of Concord, North Carolina; granddaughter Cailynn Sanders of Aldie, Virginia; granddaughter Valery Turner of Granville, Oklahoma; 4 great-granddaughters and one great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

Pall Bearers are Ennis Brooks, Jeremy Blackman, Johnny Blackman, Dennis Calsoncin, John Harvey, and Russell Walker, with honorary pallbearers Mike Lockhart, Chad Thompson, Trey Gattis, and Tim Gattis.

Condolences can be made at Meltonkitchens.com, and in lieu of flowers, donations in Stella’s honor can be made to the Gunsight Baptist Church, and can be left at Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home.
