The National Theatre of Breckenridge and the Friends of Historic Breckenridge will have two events next month — New York, NY Dueling Pianos and a free showing of the movie “Wicked.” Additionally, the theater is planning the annual Missoula Children’s Theatre workshop for June.

The New York, NY Dueling Pianos show is part of the theater’s Performance Series and is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 15. Tickets cost $30 for adult general admission (age 18 and older) and $15 for student general admission (age 17 and younger). Click here to order tickets online. For those not wanting to make an online ticket purchase, a limited number of physical tickets are available to purchase (cash or check only) at Clear Fork Bank in Breckenridge, and tickets will be available to purchase at the box office based on availability.

The show will feature two performers on two pianos. They will take requests and encourage singing and clapping along. New York, NY Dueling Pianos started in New York City in 2012. Within a couple of years, the performers were getting invited all over the U.S. At first they would fly their New York performers in and rent equipment locally. But as their popularity grew, they invested in full traveling shows, complete with pianos, sound, and lighting, based in major cities in Texas, California, the Midwest, and Florida. Even though their corporate offices remain in NYC, they now play for audiences all throughout North America.

The doors will open at 6 p.m., and the show is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.

Blackhorse Mercantile and Cafe, which is the presenting sponsor, will provide beer and wine in the theater’s bar area for purchase. You must be 21 to purchase adult beverages, and a valid ID is required. Bottled water will also be available to purchase.

The National Theatre is located at 116 E. Walker St. It is owned and operated by the nonprofit organization Friends of Historic Breckenridge.

“Wicked”

On Saturday, Feb. 8, Copperleaf Properties will sponsor a free showing of the movie “Wicked” at the National Theatre. Doors will open at 6 p.m., and the movie will begin at 7 p.m. Concessions will be available to purchase. No outside food or drink is allowed.

“Wicked” is the first of two or more movies based on the musical by the same name. It’s loosely based on “The Wizard of Oz” and focuses on Elphaba, who will later become the Wicked Witch of the West, and her friendship with Galinda, who will become Glinda the Good.

Missoula Children’s Theatre

This summer, the National Theatre will offer the annual Missoula Children’s Theatre workshop. Auditions will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 16, and the workshop week will continue through Friday, June 20.

Auditions are open to children who have completed kindergarten through 12th grade. Registration forms will be available on the National Theatre website beginning on Tuesday, April 1. Those who participated last year should get a reminder card in the mail.

This year’s production will be “Hercules,” set in ancient Greece, where the focus is on the Olympic Games. The play is adapted by Michael McGill and Joseph Martinez with music and lyrics by McGill.

More details will be available at a later date.
