D.C. “Button” Sikes passed away peacefully at home on January 20, 2025, surrounded by love. Visitation will be at the First Methodist Church Breckenridge on Thursday, January 23, from 1 to 2 p.m. Funeral service will immediately follow at 2 p.m. with Michael Roach officiating. Private burial will be held following the service at Shady Grove Cemetery in Eolian, Texas, under the direction of Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home.

A lifelong Stephens County resident, Button was born on September 23, 1939, to William A. (Bill) Sikes and Ferrol Booth Sikes. He lived the entirety of his life within a 15-mile radius — from his birth in Eolian to the Parks/Lake Daniel area and finally to the home in which he and Fran raised their children within a half-mile of his birthplace.

He graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1958. After his marriage to Fran Lamb in 1961, the couple began a partnership that yielded two children and many successful business ventures.

Button ran a farming and cow/calf operation under the Bar S Ranch brand. He spent many days with John Deere tractors, Gleaner combines, and had an affection for Charolais cattle.

He served his beloved Stephens County as Precinct 2 Commissioner for 40 years. He was unwavering in his commitment to the best interest for Stephens County, and he met all challenges with integrity, knowledge, and a firm yet friendly handshake.

Button, together with his mother, wife and children, proudly received the Texas Family Land Heritage award in 1984 for having owned and run a continuous agricultural operation for 100 years or more. Button and his family were again honored to receive the FLH award for two additional properties in 2023.

Button was dedicated to family, public service, and stewarding the land. He left his handprints, footprints, and heart print throughout Stephens County.

He was preceded in death by parents, Bill and Ferrol Sikes; sister, Carolyn Sikes Offield; son, Sammy Ray Sikes; grandson, Derek Hayes; and many dear friends that he cherished.

Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Fran Lamb Sikes; daughter, Karen Holland, and husband Melvin of Moran; daughter-in-law, Sonia Sikes of Breckenridge; granddaughters, Harli Harris and husband Randy of Moran, and Katie Martin and husband Stuart of Abilene; great-grandson Sam Martin; sister-in-law Libby Sevier of Prescott, Arkansas; several family members; and his faithful friends, John Hill and Jerry Toland.

Pallbearers: Melvin Holland, Jerry Toland, John Hill, Justin Barnes, Brett Grissom and David Saunders.

Honorary Pallbearers: Roger Tonne, Gary Fuller and Don Phillips.

Special appreciation to Dr. Kelli Windsor and Stephens Memorial Hospital, Solaris Hospice, and Sacred Cross EMS.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Shady Grove Cemetery, c/o Clear Fork Bank, P.O. Box 951, Breckenridge, TX 76424.

“Your labor is done, your home now is heaven; no more must you wait, your legacy lives on, your love of the land, and we will close the gate.” – Kraayenhof
