Months of hard work, planning and organizing came to a close Saturday morning as the 2025 Stephens County Junior Livestock Show wrapped up with the Jacob Jackson Master Showman competition, the buckle awards ceremony and the buyers’ luncheon and sale.

This year’s show included 101 young exhibitors showing animals in 80 classes. The show started on Thursday evening with the Rabbit Division. On Friday, the contests included Poultry, Goats, Sheep, Swine and Cattle. Friday’s events also included the Pee Wee Show and the Ag Project judging. On Saturday morning, the interviews for the Herdsman Awards were held, followed by the showman competition and the awards presentation. The General Show Chairman for the 67th annual SCJLS was Zach Shortes.

Jacob Jackson Master Showman Award

Kadynce Kennedy became the 11th recipient of the Jacob Jackson Master Showman Award, accepting the award from Lee Stanley of Crockett on Saturday morning.

The showman contest focuses on the skills the students exhibit as they show their animals throughout the livestock show. Each year, the final competition includes the senior showmanship winners from the SCJLS divisions of poultry, rabbit, sheep, goat, swine and cattle.

At the end of each division’s competition throughout the SCJLS, the exhibitors may participate in the showmanship contest. The winners from each division then compete for the master showman award. In final contest, each exhibitor shows a chicken, rabbit, sheep, goat, swine and steer/heifer, regardless of which category they originally won in. The contestants often borrow the other animals from their friends and fellow exhibitors and seek out advice on showing the animals they are not accustomed to showing. The winner receives a framed belt buckle and $1,000.

The award is named after the late Jacob Jackson, who died in 2014 at the age of 33. He had been active in the SCJLS for years.

Winning the Showman awards in each category were:

  • Cable Perkins (since Cable won the Jacob Jackson award last year, the Reserve Senior Rabbit Showman, Collum Perkins, represented the division in the Jacob Jackson contest) — Rabbit Division Senior Showmanship winner
  • Josiah Moreno — Poultry Division Senior Showmanship winner
  • Sylee Mitchell — Goat Division Senior Showmanship winner
  • Miley Roberts — Sheep Division Senior Showmanship winner
  • Adison Nowak — Swine Division Senior Showmanship winner
  • Kadynce Kennedy — Cattle Division Senior Showmanship winner

Kennedy was presented with the award by Addalyn Jackson, Jacob’s daughter.

The Breckenridge Texas will have complete results from the Stephens County Junior Livestock Show later this week.
