Rodney Lee Hartfield
Rodney Lee Hartfield, 62, of Breckenridge, Texas, passed away surrounded by those he loved on December 20, 2024. The family will be having a Memorial Service to honor Rodney’s life to be held at Gunsight Baptist Church on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at 2 p.m. with JB Sparks officiating the service.
Rodney was born on October 23, 1962, in Dallas, Texas, to Royce and Rosa Hartfield. Rodney graduated from South Grand Prairie High School in 1981. He was an outstanding athlete in football, basketball and track. He joined the National Guard after High School. He was always self-employed: carpet cleaning and then he started his present business, Bar B Queing! He started with a little food truck on the South side of town. Then he opened the Pit Stop in 2004 on South Breckenridge Ave.
One of Rodney’s favorite sayings was you “Gotta Eat.” Rodney loved serving the community by hosting The Juneteenth Celebration, weddings, family and class reunions and church events and anywhere that people had to eat. He fed the children during the COVID pandemic. He was the first to provide food for families that had lost loved ones.
Rodney is survived by his loving and supportive wife Amanda, who stood by him through it all, and she will cherish all that they went through together, good and bad. He is also survived by four sons, Preston (Rebecca), Craig, Bradley (Ann), Trevor, Nick, Brooke and Cam. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and one-great granddaughter. He is also survived by his mother Rose; sisters Rosalyn, Melynda and Millie; brothers Roni and Gary; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins; and a host of friends.
Rodney was preceded in death by his father Royce and his sister Shannon.
He will be truly missed but never forgotten. He would like to thank all the doctors, nurses and everyone for their prayers and kind words of encouragement. Also, we want to thank Melton Kitchens Funeral Home for all you have done for us.
