The Bent Nail continues 100-year tradition of serving food to Breckenridge at 318 W. Walker
On Thursday morning, Nov. 14, The Bent Nail held a ribbon cutting with the Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce, officially opening the new take-out casserole business in a location that has been known as a local food spot for about 100 years.
Owner Debbie Brennan and co-worker Jan Loggains were surrounded by family, friends and Chamber members for the event at 318 W. Walker St., the site of the former Nail’s Cafe, Pam’s Cafe and Ol’ Timer’s Diner, before it moved to its new location.
“Miss Nail opened this little building in the 1930s, and she had gotten it from her aunt and uncle (who) had it in the 1920s. Everybody that I’ve met remembers coming into Miss Nail’s, and we just wanted to preserve this little building,” Brennan said. “And that’s why we named her The Bent Nail, in memory of Miss Nail and Nail’s Cafe. And, she is bent and beat up.”
The Bent Nail is take-out only. Each week, they offer a casserole dish that customers can order in advance via Facebook or text message. The casseroles are then ready to pick up on Thursdays.
“(Jan and I) knew that the casseroles were something that the community really likes, and so that’s why we talked to Mr. Whitmire. And he agreed to let us rent this from him,” Brennan said.
Some of the casseroles they have offered in recent weeks include beef enchiladas, chicken bacon ranch penne pasta, Italian ziti, king ranch chicken, and chicken spaghetti. The casseroles are usually offered in two different sizes, small (4-6 servings) and large (8-10 servings), and orders are typically due on Sundays.
Additionally, The Bent Nail sells chicken salad and honey sunflower dressing by the pint.
