Halloween is Thursday, Oct. 31, and the Breckenridge community has lots of events planned for that day and in the days leading up to the trick-or-treating.

Check out the list of Halloween and Fall-related events below.

Family Fun Festival

The Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce, City of Breckenridge and Stephens County have teamed up to present the second annual Family Fun Festival from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, on the courthouse lawn and on the streets around the courthouse in downtown Breckenridge.

Last year’s event was held on Halloween night, but this year the Family Fun Festival is going to be a couple of days before Halloween in order to avoid time conflicts with other activities.

Beginning at 3 p.m. Tuesday, the 100 blocks of North Rose Avenue and North Court Street will be blocked off for the event. There will be organizations and businesses giving away candy, trunk-or-treat style. On the courthouse lawn, there will be businesses and organizations with booths, a photo booth, food trucks and a decorated pumpkin contest.

Last year, the pumpkin contest was just for City of Breckenridge departments, but this year it has been opened up to all businesses and organizations in Breckenridge. Additionally, there will be cash prizes for the winners. Those participating in the pumpkin decorating contest will need to drop off their entry at City Hall, 105 N. Rose Ave., by 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29.

At 6 p.m., on the west side of the courthouse, there will be a costume contest for kids ages 12 and younger. Entry in the contest is free, and cash prizes for first, second and third places will be awarded.

For more information about the event, call the Chamber of Commerce at 254-559-2301.

Walker Street Trick-or-Treat

The Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce will sponsor its annual Walker Street Trick-or-Treat event on Halloween, Thursday, Oct. 31. Participating businesses up and down Walker Street and beyond will be handing out candy from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. or according to the business’ regular hours.

For Walker Street Trick-or-Treat, the Chamber puts together a list of local businesses on Walker Street (and some local businesses that aren’t on Walker) that will be handing out candy to kids for the holiday. The event will take place during the regular business hours of the participating businesses, mostly from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., but some businesses may close earlier or stay open later. The wide range of hours allows younger children and daycares to trick-or-treat early in the day, and then school-age kids can stop by after school.

In addition to handing out candy, Blackhorse Mercantile and Cafe, 103 W. Walker St., which opens at 11 a.m., will also have a photo area set up for all trick-or-treaters to stop at and take a picture.

The Chamber’s official list of participating businesses is included below.

Businesses that would like to participate can call the Chamber of Commerce at 254-559-2301.
