Fifth graders celebrate Constitution Week with ‘Unite or Die’ play

In celebration Constitution Week, a group of fifth graders at South Elementary performed the play “Unite or Die: How Thirteen States Became a Nation” for their fellow fifth graders, as well as parents and teachers in the school cafeteria/auditorium last week.
Lisa Echols, with the Lee’s Legion Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, helped the fifth graders put on the play, which teaches students how the original 13 states had to work together to create the U.S. Constitution.
Students representing the original 13 colonies in the play spoke about their state’s part in the negotiation in creating the Constitution. Additionally, there were also four student narrators.

Also assisting with the play were teachers Claudia Alvarado and Genie Graham, and paraprofessional Kaylee Sandoval.
Earlier this month students and faculty at Breckenridge High School joined members of the local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution at the BHS flag pole to celebrate the kickoff of Constitution Week with a special flag raising ceremony.
