Delena Cantrell, age 61, of Breckenridge, passed away Sunday, September 22, 2024. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, September 27, at First Baptist Church with Pastor Andy Rodgers and Patrick Frishe officiating. Interment will follow in the Breckenridge Cemetery under the direction of Morehart Mortuary. Visitation will be held 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, September 26, at Morehart Mortuary.

Delena Mae Dewey was born on February 5, 1963, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to parents, Delbert Dewey and Gladys Largent. On March 14, 1978, she married Jim Lee Cantrell in Wichita Falls, Texas. The Cantrells made their home in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, before moving to Breckenridge in 1985. Soon after moving to Breckenridge, Delena began taking care of children in the First Baptist Church nursery. She happily served in that role for 30 years. In 1995, she began working for Breckenridge Independent School District at East Elementary. During her 29 years there, she made lasting connections with many students and colleagues. Delena was an active member of First Baptist Church and enjoyed helping with Vacation Bible School. She also volunteered in various capacities with a local organization, OurTown. Delena loved spending time with her family, especially all of her grandchildren who called her “Nana.”

She was preceded in death by her parents, Delbert Dewey and Gladys Largent; her husband, Jim Cantrell, Sr.; and two sisters, Janice McLean and Norma Dewey.

Delena is survived by four children, Jimmie Cantrell and wife Nicole, April Beatty and husband Robert, Violet Brinn and husband George, and Bacel Cantrell and wife Eva; six grandchildren, Tanner Cantrell and wife Kayla, Jimi Grace Cantrell, Brandon Baker, Kayleigh Cantrell, Braye Cantrell, and Millie Cantrell; three great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Grace Cantrell, Kyler Tater, and Raiden Tater; her bonus mom, Marilyn Dewey; one brother, Delbert Dewey, Jr.; nephew, Catlin Dewey; and numerous other nephews, nieces and great-nieces and great-nephews.
