BHS to celebrate Homecoming next week with parade, bonfire, pep rallies and more
The Breckenridge Buckaroo community is gearing up for Homecoming 2024 next week. Activities include a parade, two pep rallies, a bonfire, events at the schools and, of course, the football game on Friday, Sept. 27.
The parade, first pep rally and bonfire will be on Wednesday, Sept. 25, and this year’s Homecoming theme is “Deep in the Heart of Breckenridge.”
The deadline to sign up to have a float in the homecoming parade is Friday, Sept. 20. Entry forms may be picked up from W5 Pharmacy, 1110 E. Walker St., or click here to download an entry form, which includes all of the rules for floats. The forms must be returned to W5 Pharmacy or emailed to Gentry Wimberley at g_halbert@yahoo.com. For more information about the parade, email Wimberley or send her a message on Facebook Messenger.
The parade is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, and will proceed down Walker Street from Miller Street to Court Street. Following the parade, there will be a pep rally and community prayer at the Stephens County Courthouse, 200 W. Walker St.
After the events downtown, the crowd will be invited to attend a bonfire at the baseball fields on North Breckenridge Avenue (U.S. Highway 183). Vendors and food trucks will be onsite.
There will also be a Homecoming pep rally at noon Friday, Sept. 27, in the Breckenridge ISD Athletic Facility (big gym), at the corner of West Second Street and North Live Oak Street.
Additionally, each school will be having special spirit days throughout the week in honor of Homecoming:
- Monday, Sept. 23: Inside Out Day — East and South Elementary students can wear their clothes inside out; at the Breckenridge High School, it will be Inside Out Emotions, and students are encouraged to wear a color to express their emotions.
- Tuesday, Sept. 24: At East and South, students are encouraged to wear their favorite athletic wear or sports gear; at BHS, it will be Adam Sandler Day, and students will be allowed to dress as their favorite Adam Sandler character (hats will be allowed).
- Wednesday, Sept. 25: Mathletes vs Athletes — At all of the schools, the students will be encouraged to dress like a “nerd” or “athlete.”
- Thursday, Sept. 26: Buckaroo Day — Students at all schools will be encouraged to wear western-themed attire.
- Friday, Sept. 27: Pep Rally Day — School is out on Friday, Sept. 27, but a pep rally will be held at noon in the BHS Athletic Facility (big gym). Everyone is encouraged to wear “Buckaroo Green.”
The Homecoming game against the Tolar High School Rattlers will start at 7 p.m. in Buckaroo Stadium. The Homecoming Queen festivities will start at 6:30 p.m. on the field.
