Ruth Ann Creagh, 91, of Breckenridge, passed away on Friday, September 6, 2024. Her Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, September 13, 2024, at First Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Linda Leverage and Pastor Andy Channer officiating. Interment to follow at Breckenridge Cemetery under the direction of Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home.

Ruth Ann Hicks was born on February 15, 1933, to Charlie and Lou Dola Hicks in Lingleville, Texas. She graduated from Stephenville High School. She married John Creagh on February 15, 1953, at the Central Presbyterian Church in Abilene, Texas. They met at the Stephenville Presbyterian Church, where Ruth played the church organ, and John attended Tarleton State College. Ruth’s four brothers called her Princess, and John called her the Love of his Life.

Ruth traveled with John to California, where he was stationed in the U.S. Marines. They made their home in Breckenridge, Texas, surrounded by the Creagh Family, to build their family with their daughter, Sharee, and son, James. Ruth and John worked for Bill Creagh’s Corral Drive-In Theatre, while John worked and learned the electrician trade. Ruth also worked as a legal aide to D.T. Bowles. They opened Creagh Electric, where they worked together and later with their son. Ruth was the accountant and office manager. She later earned her B.A. of Education degree from McMurry College in Abilene, Texas, to become South Elementary School’s third grade teacher in Breckenridge.

Ruth and John were devoted members of the First Presbyterian Church in Breckenridge, community civic clubs and organizations, and the Breckenridge Square Dance Club, where they traveled and enjoyed close friendships.

They cherished their families and their beloved grandchildren, Dustin Creagh Cummings, son of Sharee Cummings, and Bonnie Minatra, daughter of James and Rhonda Creagh. Ruth and John looked to their niece, Kim Creagh Baggett, as a daughter and Tammie Keese, a long-time caregiver for 30-plus years, as a bonus daughter. They enjoyed their nieces and nephews visiting in the summer for family time. Ruth was the proud great-grandmother of Dusty’s sons, Kayson and Kyler Creagh Cummings, who lovingly called her Meme.

Ruth survived a cerebral aneurysm in 1978, and John was there to care for her during her recovery. Ruth cared for John during his health decline until his death in 1999. They are now joined again with the love of their lives.

The family would like to express our sincere appreciation to the compassionate and caring staff at Villa Haven Nursing Home and the Solaris Hospice of Breckenridge, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, the family honors donations to the First Presbyterian Church in Breckenridge, Texas, for their community support programs. Condolences can be made at meltonkitchens.com.
