BISD to offer free breakfast, lunch for children in June
Breckenridge children can get a free breakfast and a free lunch this month through a program that partners the Breckenridge Independent School District with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Texas Department of Agriculture.
BISD will serve breakfast and lunch for free to children ages 1-18 from June 3 to June 20, Mondays through Thursdays, at South Elementary and at the Breckenridge High School/Junior High gym, said Mark Nelson, Director of Food Service for BISD.
Breakfast will be served from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m., and lunch will be served from 11:30 to 1 p.m.
The Summer Nutrition Program is offered to help combat childhood hunger. When school is out for the summer, kids lose access to these healthy meals, but they still need nutritious food to grow healthy and strong. That’s why the USDA and the TDA team up with local agencies to offer meals to children when school ends. Nearly 30 million children participate in USDA’s school breakfast and lunch programs on an average school day, according to information from the USDA.
